PAST PROJECTS

HOW WE STARTED

  • Libraries

    • During its earlier years of operation, KRIS mainly focused its efforts on strengthening the sources of education and safe spaces for the youth in the communities the organization interacted with. Since its establishment in 2008, KRIS has successfully set up six libraries in the country.

      • KRIS Library in Zamboanga City

        • This particular library was borne out of the organization’s wish to reach out to the children of a war-stricken Zamboanga City due to activities of violent extremist groups. It was completed in 2011 and was stocked with over 10,000 selections of books, magazines, and other references as well as photocopying machines, printers, and computers. During its time of operation, approximately a hundred children each day would flock to the library and use its resources to help them with their schooling needs.

      • KRIS Library in Quezon City

        • The library opened its doors in May 2011 with the aim to cater to the needs of the youth in the slum areas of Barangay Holy Spirit (with an estimated population of 150,000 during the time the library was set up).

      • KRIS Library in Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay

        • Together with the Kaisa Para sa Kaunlaran Foundation, the Kabataan Inyong Dapat Suportahan (KIDS) Foundation, and international donors, KRIS was able to deliver school supplies, books, and other resources to the library of the Claret Kindergarten School of Tungawan. The library was able to restart its operations on August 5, 2011 after its community experienced violence in the area.

      • KRIS Library in Bangkal, Zamboanga Sibugay

        • A library in the remote mountain village of Sitio Bangkal was created by KRIS last August 5, 2011 in partnership with the Claret Urban Poor Apostolate (CUPA). The library also functioned as a kindergarten and catered to the village’s needs especially with their youth due to their limited access to basic resources and due to their proximity to the camps of violent extremists groups.

      • KRIS Library in Rodriguez, Rizal

        • The library established in Rodriguez, Rizal was a product of a joint effort between KRIS, Claret Urban Poor Apostolate (CUPA) and Kartirang Claretiano, Inc. (KCI). It opened its doors on July 15, 2011 at the CUPA Day Care Center in a resettlement area for Typhoon Ondoy (International name: Ketsana) victims and those affected by demolition activities in nearby communities.

      • KRIS Library in Davao

        • In partnership with the Ang Batang Musmos (ABM) Foundation, KRIS was able to construct a library in Davao City in February 2012.
